About Where the Wildlings Roam

from artist & illustrator, Portia Graves
Where are we located?

Illustrated in Stamford...

…which sits in the south-west corner of the county of Lincolnshire, right on the borders of Rutland and Cambridgeshire!

Where the Wildlings Roam is an online gift store selling a variety of illustrated items for big and little wildlings, including gift ware, art prints, homeware, stationery, fashion & much more.

All designs are illustrated by Portia Graves in her studio in Stamford, UK.

A little bit about Portia...

Portia gets her inspiration from spotting wildlife, being surrounded in nature and exploring the world in her camper van with her adventurous family. Her two young boys are her pride and joy, and her husband is the woodwork guy who creates magic in the studio with his laser cutter.

Even though Portia is the sole owner of Where The Wildlings Roam and runs the whole business single-handedly, her husband and children always have been an essential part and you will quite often see them attending workshops, markets or even helping in the studio wrapping orders for pocket money!

The Wildlings Blog

Portia is a passionate traveler. She is always planning the next big adventure! A lot of her designs are inspired by places she has visited, wildlife and nature. Portia enjoys visiting cities just as much as the countryside.

She is a proud owner of a camper van which she and her husband converted themselves (well she just designed everything where as he physically made it happen!)

They love exploring the UK and Europe and they hope the boys won’t outgrow the van for another couple of years so they can cram in lots more adventures in there home on wheels before they plan their next upgrade.

What materials does she use?

Portia uses of mix of media in her art – anything from simple pencil/pen & ink to watercolours/gouache to digital design – sometimes, a bit of everything!

She has always been an avid user of Adobe programs such as photoshop and illustrator so she is able to design for specific products and works on an array of projects for customers and clients.

One of her favourite being seamless design for fabrics, wallpaper & gift wrap.

Designing for clients...

Portia loves working on bespoke projects. She loves drawing architecture, gardens & adding her own artistic licence! She especially loves collaborating with museums and clients within the art industry. Recently she has enjoyed working with National Trust properties and drawing their beautiful estates.

Portia has always had a passion for music & theatre (she is a trained composer for stage and screen and still enjoys a tinkle on her piano keys) She maintains good relationships from her days living in London and works closely with The Royal Opera & Ballet.

Sustainability

Our studio commits to being as eco-concious & sustainable as possible, whilst maintaining a low carbon-footprint, which improves yearly.

Paper & wooden products are Forest Stewardship Council certified and we print and engrave in house with sustainable, vegan inks. When outsourcing products we throughly research each and every company ensuring the majority of items can be is eco-friendly & made as locally as possible.

The majority of packaging is recyclable & every purchase goes towards planting a tree in the ecology forest. We all need to do our bit.

WILDLING WORKSHOPS

Portia adores working with children. After becoming a Beaver Scout leader in 2023, she gained the confidence to start hosting her own art workshops for children which are now on a weekly basis, often supporting mental health and neurodiversity by using learnt art therapy practices.

After navigating from PTSD induced anxiety herself, Portia took a keen interest in mental health and studied the brain intensively whilst undergoing hypnotherapy. She has recently completed a level 2 course in Mental Health for Children and is finishing her Art Therapy Diploma.

My tribe...

Portia and her family live for adventures and discovering new places. Wellbeing and family life is priority for them. Since lock down, they decided a camper van would help them all continue to have adventures not far from home. This is where they fell in love with the mesmerising Scottish Highlands (minus the annoyances that are loch-side midges!)

So if you don’t see Portia behind a market stall, hosting a workshop, leading her scout group, walking the dog, or volunteering at the local craft shop… you will most probably see her on the road in the van travelling to somewhere new, doodling deep in the woods or paddling in the water somewhere.
